Fiddlers' Tour

The Capital Region's Weekly Traditional Music Jam

Old Time Tune List

There are often regional or personal variations in OT music between how one person plays a tune vs. another, or how a book might have it noted (if you can even find it in a book -- hence, some frustration by music readers to follow a tune we're playing). Chording may also vary between players. Just remember, there is no one way to play a tune -- just different ways. Sometimes, we have no written music for the OT tunes we play, since most OT music is learned by ear. And -- some OT tunes are "crooked," not "even" in the number of measures that make up the tune (ex: 15 or 17 measures, instead of 16) -- where the majority of fiddle tunes are 8, 16, 32, 48 or so measures long. These take a little more work, but are fun to do.

The later "half" of the Fiddlers' Tour sesssion (any time after 9:45 or 10pm) tends to lean more toward Old-timey music and up tempos. Below is a list of Old-timey tunes the Tour enjoys playing. We will continue to add tunes to the list, for it is by no means, complete (and the late-night fiddlers have a lot more OT tunes they play, than are listed here).

PLEASE NOTE: the variation we play may not be the same as what is listed in the books mentioned below, but the books may give you something to work with -- the melody should be close enough:
